Our History

Burritt's Then
O.W. Burritt was an original Weedsport entrepreneur. He was an inventor, a businessman, a small town store owner and pillar of the Weedsport community at the turn of the century. Now, almost one hundred years later, Burritt's is once again a center for entrepreneurial leadership and community development. Not only that - it's also the best place from Rochester to Schenectady to get a cup of coffee and a pastry - 7 days a week.

Burritt's Now
The building that houses the modern Burritt's Cafe is not the same that held the original. The entire corner block was destroyed by a fire in the first quarter of the century. The building that replaced the old brick buildings used some of the same bricks!
Darryl Wolford and Sherry Saben-Wolford spent nearly a year working on the Burritt's building, clearing out the remains of the hardware store that occupied the building for many years. What they created has to be seen. The entire exterior of the building is a brilliant professionally painted Trompe-l'œil. The side of the building is covered by a 75" long original mural of the Old Erie Canal, which ran directly through Weedsport.
